Cryptocurrency Donations from Binance Charity Foundation to Help Philippine Hospitals in Fight Against COVID-19

In recent times, we've launched our weeks output with an edition of the EXPOSED! series. Today, due to the 'interesting times' through which we are living, we are kicking things off with a piece on one of many positive responses that this outbreak has unleashed within so many people and within our community as recounted by a regular contributor of ours, Miguel Cuneta in the Philippines. This pandemic affects us all and our response speaks volumes about who we are.

Binance Charity has donated ₱3.5 million ($70,000) worth of medical protective equipment to various hospitals in the Philippines, as part of its global Crypto Against COVID campaign, which was driven by donations made via Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

The donated supplies, which included surgical masks, alcohol, face shields, protective suits, and more, were delivered to 18 medical and government institutions around the Philippines. On each box containing the medical supplies, Binance Charity wrote, “Kapit tayo, kabayan! Kasama mo kami, at magtutulungan tayo para maghilom ang ating bayan. #WeHealAsOne #CryptoAgainstCOVID.” (Stay strong. We’re with you, and we’ll help each other in healing the nation.)

In the Philippines, Binance Charity paid suppliers of medical equipment in cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, BNB, and BUSD, so the whole flow of donation is recorded and shown on blockchain for transparency. The funds were transfered and converted into Philippines pesos by Rebittance Inc., a pioneer local Bitcoin exchange and transfer service licensed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and owned by SCI Ventures.

Once Binance Charity secured the medical supplies, they coordinated the prompt delivery of the donations in hospitals around Metro Manila.  In addition, Binance Charity shipped more supplies to several locations outside Manila, including Davao City, Cagayan de Oro City, Alaminos City in Pangasinan, Isulan City in Sultan Kudarat, and more.

As of press time, Binance Charity has raised about $4 million in cryptocurrency donations for the Crypto Against COVID campaign, which has helped provide medical supplies to at least 17 countries and regions around the world, including the U.S., Italy, Brazil, Turkey, and more.

Earlier this year, Binance Charity sent relief goods to people affected by the Taal Volcano eruption. Volunteers from the Binance Filipino community were also instrumental in distributing relief goods to affected communities.

A global effort to save your world
