Second in my short series highlighting apps, devices and services that have gone above and beyond during 2021 to enhance privacy and free us from data enslavement.

The choice for Device of the year was actually incredibly easy. It really was a shortlist of one and although it has been around a while, it still rocks!

Please give three cheers for 'The Pi!'

I devoted an entire chapter entitled The one with the Pi with 5 or 6 sub-sections and so I'll just leave them up here for you to revisit at your leisure! So here is a little reminder of what is possible with the Pi:

Privacy Cookbook - Chapter 18 - The One with the Pi - Umbrel Bitcoin

Privacy Cookbook - Chapter 15.2 & 18.2 - The School Pi
I know last time out on The one with the Pi, I said the next ‘piece of Pi’ wouldbe about Kodi, but I just got so fired up when I was thinking about how bad thedevices we give our kids for school are so I changed tack. Mostly loaded with Microsoft (if the kids are lucky) they might have an iPad.…

I'll make it part of my mission in 2022 to have more about the Pi more regularly, as I really believe the Pi can be your most important tool around the house.

From being your AI (for smart appliances) to your Netflix replacement, and in-house music station. There's a Raspberry Pi for everyone and at for an astonishingly affordable price. You can't beat that combination.

And for all of the above is why I selected the Raspberry Pi to be the Device of the year 2021.
