I have mentioned before that I recommend Linux over both Windows and macOS. I know some people “need” Windows because one software or a game they use doesn't work elsewhere, even with wine (a software that should run many Windows games and software on Linux)!
Furthermore, I could argue that on Linux there are always solutions for every problem, but let's assume you stick with Windows and/or macOS.
There is a sexy solution that gets rid of a lot of the telemetry and privacy issues these two OSs offer. It's called privacy.sexy!
Futhermore, the script hardens your privacy and security vs the standard settings you get with Apple or Windows.
Enforce privacy & security best-practices on Windows and macOS
As you can see, unlike shutUp10 and other debloating tools for Windows, privacy.sexy is actually fully open-source. It also does not require you to install any software on your computer.

Having open-source out of the way, it is a very basic script where all you need to do is select your OS, then specify what you would like to block or remove.
In Windows, this covers the following:
- Privacy Cleanup
- Disable OS Data Collection
- Configure Programs
- Security Improvements
- Privacy Over Security
- UI for Privacy
- Disable OS Services
- Remove Bloatware
- Advanced Settings
You can select all, but I strongly recommend going over each of the settings and select what works for you.
On macOS, you have 3 different settings:
- Privacy Cleanup
- Configure Programs
- Configure OS
As you can see, macOS is way less privacy intrusive than Windows, but it is still a lot to do. Just like with the Windows script, select what you feel comfortable to remove and what you want to keep.
Once you've made your selection, you can download or copy what you need to paste into your terminal window. It is that simple! You will usually be prompted to enter your Administration Password to start the process.
The beauty doesn't end here, if you are unhappy with some changes, or things aren't working out as planned, you can always revert (undo) the applied scripts.
Privacy.sexy also offers an app image for Linux, but the main focus on today's recommendation is on macOS and Windows.
Please tailor this specifically to your needs, but take care, it may affect some functionality. I tried the setup on a Mac and selected everything, and had no issues. Then again, I don't use every Apple software pre-installed, so don't take my word for it.
Overall, this little script is cool and works as advertised. Giving you a little more privacy and removes telemetry, which no one signed up for ;)
Stay safe!
